Zombified

A society so entangled in technology- and we don't even see the problem.

We currently live in a society entangled in technology, our phones and most damagingly- social media. It feels as though we can’t go even 5 minutes without feeling the need to tap on our phones. And this kind of reliance is undoubtedly unhealthy.

It seems that we rely quite heavily on our phones for our everyday lives, and if that’s not bad enough- we allow ourselves to be distracted by them every minute. Even in those moments where we don't actually need to be using them- they're there. We can't go a second without grabbing hold of our phones, and when that screen lights up- no matter what we are doing we become locked in a trance.

I don’t know about you, but for me, every hour I waste scrolling mindnumbingly on tiktok leaves me feeling drained and horrible after. So much of our time, and equally as importantly, our energy is wasted by our time on social media.

But we have to take back our lives! We can't let our phones, instagram, tiktok, snapchat get in the way of us experiencing life for what it is. Our relationships, our memories are all tainted by wasting precious moments scrolling mindlessly. Even if it is small steps to change- we have to make them. Otherwise we are to become a society zombified, and completely at the mercy of those that are in control.

So maybe from now, start to take notice of your habits. How the first thing you do in the morning is pick up your phone. How someone could be talking to you but you're so busy scrolling that you have no idea. Take back your life, the moments and memories that are meant to be important. Don't let them become a fog because you're wasting so much time on your phone.

Little changes can snowball into a big change. Whether that is trying to reduce your time on social media. Or having at least 10 minutes before you sleep without a screen. Or even having an actual alarm clock so your phone isn't the first thing you pick up in the morning. It is possible for us to live a more human and connected lifestyle. We just have to make small changes.
