Moments of Stillness

For those moments where everything feel still.

Disclaimer: this article is not written with anyone who is suffering with their mental health, for occasions such as those- seeking help and recovering is of upmost importance. Here, this article focuses on feelings of sadness that may arise for times when life feels still and nothing is going on.

At times everything can feel still. It can feel like theres nothing going on, nothing to keep you going and its very easy to get swamped down by those feelings into negativity.

But what if we changed the way we thought about those moments?

What if, instead of seeing those moments of stillness as boring and depressing- we were grateful for them instead?

I'm a strong believer in the fact that we were put on this world for a purpose, and as a Muslim this may seem as though this belief is a default. However, the way that we practice this in our daily lives is very telling of the extent of this belief. It can be hard, especially in moments of stillness to remember that there is purpose to life. It is so easy to get swamped down and burdened by feelings of woe.

Especially during the current pandemic, there can be more and more of these moments then there would usually be. So, this mindset is of even greater importance.

But those moments though hard to see- are a gift. Instead of feeling purposeless and lost in these moments, we should see that we were given these by God. The way we use this time can be substantial. In those moments, see them as God seeking you out. He is putting everything on pause for you in order to bring you closer to Him, and give you time to reach Him. Hear his calls and bring yourself closer- you have the perfect time.

Or maybe there is something that you've always wanted to do, wanted to work on. Maybe there's a project that you've always wanted to do but things have always got in the way. This is the perfect time. And relationships, these require time and effort- these moments can be irreplaceable for growing these relationships.

The opportunities are limitless in these moments, use the time wisely and do what works for you. Sometimes, life doesn't have to be filled with moments of extreme productivity. Sometimes those moments are simply for you to recharge. Use this time for yourself- in whatever way that is for you.
